God's Proposition to Satan

And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? Job 1:8 KJV

I believe it to be the will of God to write from the book of Job for the next few months. If there is any one thing we see from the book of Job, it is the suffering of man and the sovereignty of God.

One of the most striking things in this verse is the fact that God made the proposition to Satan to try Job. God is all knowing and He knew Job would pass the trial. However, Job had not the privilege of this sovereign knowledge. God allowed Satan to take all that Job had on this earth.

Job was a man of great substance and had a lot to lose. Satan thought that the only reason Job served God was because he had been loaded with physical blessings. Satan accused God of having a hedge about Job. Thank God there is a hedge about the Saints and Satan can only penetrate it if God allows it.

Job was going about his normal business, but high above there was a conversation between all that is good and all that is evil. God allowed His hand to be lifted, so that Job could be sifted. God did this for two reasons. First to cause Job to trust totally in Him.

Second to bring glory to His name. So when Satan is allowed to consider us we should not be foolish but follow the example of Job.

Amen.
